Differences Between 2019 Nissan Altima & 2019 Honda Civic
Serving Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, and Fairfield, OH
For generations, the Nissan Altima and Honda Civic have clashed in the mid-size sedan niches. Powered by the all-new VC-Turbo engine and Intelligent AWD, the 2019 Altima dominates the 2019 Civic in performance and handling. Both cars have similar active safety technology, but this Nissan has the overall advantage thanks to the ProPILOT ASSIST.
Performance
Capable of whipping out 258 horsepower, the 2019 Nissan Altima's turbocharged engine block achieves a variable compression ratio. Using the VC Turbo mechanism, this four-cylinder powertrain cranks out 273 pound-feet of peak torque. Rated at 174 hp and 167 lb-ft, the 2019 Honda Civic's 1.5 L turbo engine doesn't even come close to challenging the VC Turbo powertrain. Delivering 158 hp and 138 lb-ft, the Civic's 2.0 L engine is also less powerful than the Altima's 2.5 L engine, which produces up to 188 hp and 182 lb-ft. When comparing the drivetrain of both cars, this Nissan model comes out as the clear winner. For the first time in its history, the Altima boasts the Intelligent AWD that guarantees class-leading handling. This dynamic AWD receives torque from the Xtronic CVT, which is more responsive and adaptive than the Civic's traditional CVT.
Interior
Powered by NissanConnect, the 2019 Altima's infotainment console includes a redesigned 8.0-inch touch screen. Measuring only 7.0 inches diagonally, the 2019 Honda Civic's touch screen uses traditional WVGA standards. Both sedans offer full support for iPhones through Apple CarPlay and Android devices through Android Auto. Hands-free phone calls could be easily handled by the wireless Bluetooth system in both cars. Having Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, the Altima offers better overall mobile connectivity than this Honda model. Remote services are also at your fingertips when you download some of the NissanConnect applications. The Parked Car Finder, Remote Engine Start/Stop and Remote Horn/Lights appear on the home screen of the NissanConnect suite. You may also sign up for remote alerts on custom valet, speed and curfew settings. Customized for the 2019 Altima, a nine-speaker audio system by Bose generates pleasant acoustics. A generic 10-speaker sound system with a subwoofer is only available in the Civic Touring trim.
Safety
The 2019 Altima's Automatic Emergency Braking and 2019 Civic's Collision Mitigation Braking reduce the risks of forward crashes. Both sedans have warning systems that come on when there's a high chance of front crashes. The Altima's Intelligent Lane Intervention offers the same lane-changing help as the Civic's Lane Keeping Assist. These cars also have sensors the analyze the blind zones of the drivers. When equipped with the ProPILOT ASSIST, this Nissan undoubtedly claims class-leading status in active safety. The Rear Automatic Braking and Traffic Sign Recognition are other accident-mitigation features that aren't available in the Civic. Having 10 air bags, the Altima also claims a victory over the Civic in passive safety.
