Differences Between 2018 Nissan Sentra & 2018 Nissan Maxima

Serving Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, and Fairfield, OH

Nestled in the sweet spot of Nissan’s car lineup is the Sentra and the Maxima. They constitute two of the older nameplates from the Japanese automaker, with the Sentra classified as a compact car and the Maxima as a full-size one. The 2018 model year finds the Sentra in its seventh generation of production and the Maxima in its eighth.

Projected Reliability

Both the 2018 Sentra and the 2018 Maxima have the same level of projected reliability, which is above average. J.D. Power & Associates assigns a Power Circle rating, which is on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), to new vehicles to evaluate their likelihood of lasting for a long time with minimal need for major repairs based on reported issues during the first 90 days of ownership. Both vehicles share a 3.5 Power Circle rating, which means that they are among the better entries in their respective classes.

Interior

Both the 2018 Nissan Sentra and the 2018 Nissan Maxima are commended for the user-friendly nature of their infotainment systems. The standard 5-inch touchscreen and the optional 5.8-inch one for the Sentra have easy-to-reach on-screen buttons, thus making the entire system intuitive. The same can be said for the Maxima, which has a larger, 8-inch touchscreen. On the Maxima, the system can be controlled by either touching the screen itself or using a control knob mounted on the console, which is similar to what luxury-branded cars have.

Safety

If you place a premium on how safe your car purchase is, you will have virtually no worries with either the 2018 Nissan Sentra or the 2018 Nissan Maxima. Both vehicles got a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which places them on a higher level than most other entries in their respective classes. The designation is based on the cars’ performances in the IIHS’s crash safety tests. Each car scored the best possible rating of “Good” in all five Crashworthiness tests (i.e., Small Overlap Front, Moderate Overlap Front, Side, Roof Strength, and Head Restraints & Seats). In addition, both cars got the top-level “Superior” rating in front crash prevention ability and a remarkable “Acceptable” rating in the effectiveness of their headlight illumination.
